Nvidia’s dropped GeForce power bug is back, and it is 617.42’s only open issue

Bug 6007998 is back in Nvidia’s GeForce release notes, and it is the only open issue the company lists for driver 617.42. The entry reads, in Nvidia’s wording, “Prefer Maximum Performance” Power Management Mode may not be applied correctly, and it appears in the notes published on October 6 after being absent from the previous edition.

Nvidia has never recorded the entry as fixed. The driver that did not carry it, 617.14 of September 22, listed three repairs and none of them was this one, and 617.42’s own fixed list names a single gaming bug, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows crash to desktop [6685219], with “N/A” for general bugs. 617.14’s three fixes were a launch failure in Judgement, Lost Judgement and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., a blank Samsung Odyssey G95NC over HDMI, and monitors failing to wake over DisplayPort.

How the nine documents were counted

All nine Windows release-notes PDFs were pulled from Nvidia’s own download server and read page by page with pypdf at 22:33 UTC on October 6. Searching the extracted text for the bug id 6007998 returns exactly one hit in each of 610.47 of May…
