Nvidia continues to double down on its AI-first strategies. The brand is set to announce the next generation of its DLSS upscaling solution, featuring even more AI-generated frames, at this year’s CES. The new version will use a “2nd-generation transformer” model, which Nvidia claims is trained on a larger dataset, ideally reducing ghosting and improving anti-aliasing, VideoCardz reports. It’s also announcing a new dynamic 6x frame generation feature that can increase the frame rate to match (or get close to matching) a monitor’s refresh rate.

When Nvidia debuted frame generation with the RTX 40-series, it was an intriguing addition to its AI toolkit for gamers, enabling frame rates to rise from the high double digits into the low triple digits for slightly smoother gameplay. But RTX 50-series multi-frame generation was received far less favorably, as it amplified artifacts, was still only usable in games with a strong frame rate, and introduced additional input lag. A 6x version will be much the same, only more.

That said, its dynamism may be more useful for gamers who want to use more limited frame generation. Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation allows the driver to adjust the number of AI frames generated. Nvidia positions this as a way to achieve 240fps in games for those using higher-refresh-rate monitors, but for those who want to switch between 1x and occasional 2x, or 2x and occasional 3x, it could be…
