Nvidia Eyes A Stake In Perplexity’s Billion Round

pmakers and cloud providers often invest in fast-growing AI apps because those apps drive demand for computing power. Perplexity’s CEO has said the company is still targeting a 2028 IPO, so a larger round now could fund more product development, computing capacity, and partnerships ahead of that timeline.

Why should I care?

For markets: A $30 billion Perplexity round sets a high bar for a 2028 IPO.

At more than $30 billion of valuation and more than $750 million of annualized revenue, Perplexity would be valued at roughly 40 times sales. That kind of multiple can look reasonable in private markets when growth is rapid, but public investors tend to be stricter and will compare it with listed software and AI peers. If revenue growth cools, public-market valuations can compress quickly, which raises the odds that an IPO could price below the last private round even if the business keeps expanding. For Nvidia, a stake would be another way to stay close to the apps that ultimately translate AI excitement into steady demand for GPUs and data-center spending.
