This collaboration will involve offering servers that support NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI GPUs and will enhance their capacity while being shorter in size compared to previous models. The Dell AI factory will consist of CPUs, GPUs, switches, and other components to create a complete hardware package for AI operations. Huang emphasized the ease of access to this AI factory, likening it to Dell’s early days with PCs and now transitioning to AI factories. Dell’s AI factory incorporates hardware and software assets from various major American technology companies, including Broadcom, Qualcomm, Microsoft, and a partnership with Meta and Microsoft for enterprise solutions. The Dell PowerEdge XE9680L server supports up to eight liquid-cooled NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and allows for quick scaling of deployment. Future versions of this server will be able to accommodate up to 72 NVIDIA GPUs in a single rack.
NVIDIA GPUs are favored for heavy-duty computing tasks like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but competition in the AI hardware market comes from AMD with its MI300X AI accelerators and Intel with its Gaudi 3 AI accelerator. Intel’s Gaudi 3 AI accelerator boasts a 50% performance boost for certain applications over the H100.
