Nvidia’s board has added $150 billion to the chipmaker’s share repurchase program, bringing the amount still authorized to $235 billion as the company generates cash from demand for artificial intelligence computing.

Nvidia said it expects to carry out the remaining program through its 2028 fiscal year. The new authorization gives the company room to buy shares over that period; it does not mean the shares have already been purchased. Nvidia described the $150 billion increase as the largest share repurchase authorization increase in history.

Founder and CEO Jensen Huang said Nvidia’s cash generation allows it to invest in AI and accelerated computing technologies while returning capital to shareholders. The expanded buyback reflects management’s confidence in the company’s long-term opportunity, he said.

Nvidia shares rose about 1.2% in premarket trading following the announcement, according to Seeking Alpha. Shares of chipmaking rivals AMD and Intel also edged higher.

For investors, the size of the authorization puts Nvidia’s capital allocation in focus: the company plans to fund its technology investments while potentially retiring a substantial number of shares. The effect on its share count will depend on how much stock Nvidia ultimately buys and the prices it pays.
