Nutanix has announced a partnership with EDB to integrate PostgreSQL software into its database service with an AI component. Additionally, Nutanix revealed the Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) to simplify container-based application management, along with a power monitor to display software electricity consumption.

PostgreSQL is an open-source RDBMS considered enterprise-grade, with EDB offering support and services for PostgreSQL. The collaboration between Nutanix and EDB will allow customers to deploy PostgreSQL in demanding enterprise environments and boost developer productivity in building applications with PostgreSQL.

EDB is expanding its PostgreSQL software to include Postgres AI, providing a combined database, data lake, data warehouse, and AI/ML vector data warehouse in one software stack. Nutanix’s support for Postgres AI enhances cooperation and adoption for this new platform.

The NKP extends existing Kubernetes support in Nutanix’s Cloud Platform software. Acquired from D2iQ, the NKP simplifies the management of Kubernetes clusters across various environments, enabling developers to build and run applications across different infrastructures.

NKP comes in three levels: NKP Starter, NKP Pro, and NKP Ultimate, offering varying features for managing Kubernetes clusters. This platform aims to simplify deploying, securing, and managing Kubernetes clusters in both on-premises and public cloud environments.

Nutanix’s Cloud Platform software will introduce a power monitor to track energy consumption based on hardware usage. This feature, included in Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure, provides real-time power metrics, historical data, and insights into power utilization for customers to optimize energy usage.

Nutanix customers have reported significant reductions in physical footprint and power consumption using NCI’s hyperconverged infrastructure-based building block product compared to legacy systems. The power monitor is the first step in providing users with tools to support sustainable IT initiatives.

The EDB PostgreSQL integration and Nutanix Kubernetes Platform are currently available, with the power consumption panel under development and expected to be released soon. The collaboration between Nutanix and EDB aims to enhance PostgreSQL capabilities for enterprise environments, while the NKP aims to simplify Kubernetes cluster management across different environments for customers. The power monitor provides valuable insights into energy consumption to support sustainable IT practices.
