On August 26, 2026, Nutanix made Nutanix Enterprise AI 2.8 generally available, including a generally available Model Context Protocol gateway for governing how AI agents connect to tools and data. The official August 26 release places Nutanix Kubernetes Platform 2.19 in a different category: its general availability is still upcoming, described only as coming soon.
The immediate change is an available governance and inference layer, not the completion of Nutanix’s wider VM-and-container platform plan. StorageReview’s August 26 coverage also distinguishes the released NAI control plane and MCP Gateway from the forthcoming NKP update.
The release matrix separates GA, preview and future capabilities
NAI 2.8 has several availability boundaries within the release itself. Agent Gateway also has a distinct commercial boundary: the NAI 2.8 product update lists a separately managed Agent Gateway license for access to unified endpoints and MCP servers.
- Generally available: NAI 2.8, MCP client-key management, forwarding of required request headers to MCP servers, fine-tuning for supported models, model-sharing controls, granular roles and options for deploying NVIDIA NIMs in air-gapped environments.
- Operational improvements: downloadable MCP server logs, default or client-specific rate limits for unified endpoints, Anthropic Messages API support and expanded management of fine-tuning jobs.
