NTT DATA, a global leader in digital business and IT services, has launched Tsuzumi through Microsoft Azure AI Models as a Service (MaaS) offering. This marks a significant milestone in their 25-year partnership aimed at developing technology solutions that promote sustainability and innovation. Tsuzumi is a large language model (LLM) proficient in Japanese and English, designed to address environmental and financial challenges associated with LLMs. By optimizing the model’s performance without sacrificing it, Tsuzumi enables more users and applications to access advanced AI technologies like generative AI. Its operational adaptability allows it to quickly adjust to specific use cases, reducing service costs. Initially available in Japan on the Azure MaaS platform, plans are in place to expand Tsuzumi to other regions. Future enhancements include advances in multi-modality to further enhance Tsuzumi’s capabilities and meet the changing needs of businesses globally. Tsuzumi comes in two versions: an ultra-light version with 600 million parameters and a lightweight version with 7 billion parameters. These sizes are significantly smaller than Open AI’s 175 billion parameter GPT-3. The lightweight version allows for high-speed inference on a single GPU, while the ultra-light version can perform on a CPU, reducing training, inference, and tuning costs. The Tsuzumi, named after a Japanese hand drum, is used in traditional Japanese music and represents language model technology driving industrial development. NTT DATA is dedicated to ongoing innovation to keep Tsuzumi at the forefront of AI technology, with plans to enhance its multimodality capabilities to meet the evolving needs of businesses worldwide. This launch coincides with Tech Mahindra’s announcement of an LLM focusing on Indian languages, starting with Hindi and its dialects.
