A student team won the Amazon Web Services (AWS) and National Football League (NFL) “Big Data Bowl” — a competition to explore statistical innovation in American football — with a framework for evaluating punt return performance.
Doctoral students Robyn Ritchie, Brendan Kumagai, Ryker Moreau and Elijah Cavan from Simon Fraser University in Canada are the first college team to win the competition, now in its fourth year.
