While the mockups that surfaced today don’t capture all of the changes, they’re likely based on accurate measurements, so they could help us pinpoint the size differences between the new and old models.
Starting with the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, it appears to have a slightly larger camera bulge than the 6.1-inch iPhone 13, and thus the latter’s case proved mismatched. The outlet also tried to put the iPhone 13’s camera cover on the iPhone 14, and the experiment seems to have revealed that the iPhone 14 has larger camera sensors.
They also compared screen protectors for the outgoing iPhone 14 series models and think the new phones may have thinner bezels and the shape of the edges may change slightly. The standard models retain the notch and the new images suggest their size has not changed.
iPhone 14 models will likely have thinner bezels than 2021 variants
After that, the outlet tried to fit the dummy iPhone 14 Max model into the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max case, and although the case fitted perfectly, indicating that the two are the same dimensions, is the camera cutout on the case is much larger than the camera island on the iPhone 14 Max. This is hardly surprising since the iPhone 13 Pro Max has three cameras, while the iPhone 14 Max will likely come with two rear cameras.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max case was perfect for the iPhone 14 Max model
When the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max dummies were put in cases meant for the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, they couldn’t fit, apparently because the new models have thicker camera bumps.
According to previous reports, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will feature the new A16 Bionic chip, while the older models will be powered by last year’s A15 Bionic. Also, only the high-end models are expected to come with 120Hz screens for smoother transitions.
Apple is expected to unveil the new phones in September.
