New NVIDIA 555.58 Linux Driver Introduces Wayland Explicit Sync and GSP Firmware Default

The NVIDIA 555.58 driver for Linux has been released as the first stable version of the R555 driver series. This driver offers explicit Wayland sync support, improved Wayland stability, and GSP firmware used by default on newer GPUs with a GPU system processor. The driver entered beta last month and a stable version has now been released with bug fixes and minor improvements.

The new features include GSP firmware by default, Wayland explicit sync with linux-drm-syncobj-v1 protocol, Vulkan Wayland WSI immediate presentation mode, 10-bit HDMI support per component, and EGL as OpenGL ICD for NvFBC. The NVIDIA 555.58 Linux driver is available for download on NVIDIA’s website, and new benchmarks will be released soon on Phoronix along with professional graphics cards. Additionally, Foronix Premium offers ad-free service to support the site’s efforts in providing Linux hardware reviews, performance benchmarks, and maintaining community forums for less than $4 a month.
