New Leadership Changes Revealed by AWS’ CEO Garman

Matt Garman has taken over as the new CEO of Amazon Web Services, expressing his optimism for the company’s future growth. In a recent message to employees, he outlined several key leadership changes, including the combination of the AWS Global Specialist Organization with the Channels and Alliances Organization, as well as placing the AWS Global Sales Organization under a single leader. Garman has chosen not to fill his previous role as Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Marketing, and Services, aiming to enhance customer focus and speed up decision-making within the organization.

One of the significant changes is the appointment of Ruba Borno to lead the newly combined Channels and Alliances Organization, absorbing the Global Specialist Organization. Greg Pearson will take charge of the integrated AWS Global Sales Organization, bringing together various sales teams for a more cohesive approach. Additionally, Kathrin Renz will continue to lead the AWS Industries Organization, while Scott Rosecrans and his GenAI Pursuits team will join the Industries Organization. Uwem Ukpong will expand his responsibilities by leading the Sovereign Cloud team in addition to the Global Services Organization.

Garman has shared his gratitude for the executives who will report to him, which includes Elizabeth Baker, Raejeanne Skillern, Peter DeSantis, Prasad Kalyanaraman, Colleen Aubrey, Werner Vogels, and Laura Grit. He praised their efforts in driving the company’s transformation to better meet customer needs and improve collaboration across teams.

Former CEO Adam Selipsky, who spent 15 years at AWS, including the last three years as CEO, left the company on June 3. Under Garman’s leadership, the focus remains on accelerating the growth of the $100 billion cloud giant by streamlining operations and optimizing customer engagement. By making strategic structural changes and aligning various sales and service teams, Garman aims to position AWS for long-term success in an increasingly competitive market.
