Intel is gearing up to release its Arrow Lake-S processors in Q3 2024, with a series of events planned to showcase new Arrow Lake-S compatible 800 series motherboards. The chipmaker will be introducing the upcoming LGA-1851 platform to distributors and motherboard partners, with a focus on the 800 series motherboards, including the Z890. A leaked diagram confirms that the Arrow Lake-S CPU and motherboards will support 16 dedicated PCIe 5.0 lanes for graphics cards, as well as additional lanes for storage. The new chipset will not support PCIe 3.0, but this is unlikely to be a concern given the benefits of PCIe 5.0.

The LGA-1851 platform will no longer support DDR4 memory, a decision that was initially met with skepticism but has since become more accepted due to declining DDR5 prices. The new CPUs will also integrate Thunderbolt 4 controllers, enabling support for up to four displays via integrated Arc Xe-LPG graphics. Users will have the option to choose between DisplayPort 2.1 or HDMI 2.1 when using the integrated GPU.

In terms of connectivity, the Arrow Lake-S processors will be compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, USB 3.2 Gen 2×1, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 connections. There are no specific details yet on the number of ports supported, but it is expected to at least match the Z790’s configuration. Networking features will include 1GbE support, an optional 2.5GbE port, and Wi-Fi 7 support. It is important to note that while these leaks provide valuable insights, they should be viewed with caution.

Overall, Intel’s upcoming Arrow Lake-S processors promise improved performance and connectivity, catering to the evolving needs of PC users. With support for advanced technologies like PCIe 5.0, Thunderbolt 4, and DDR5 memory, these CPUs are set to enhance the user experience and enable a new level of performance for gaming, content creation, and more. The upcoming events will provide a closer look at the capabilities of the Arrow Lake-S processors and their compatibility with the latest motherboards, setting the stage for a new era in CPU technology.
