New features on Google Chrome enhance search capabilities on Android and iOS

Google Chrome is enhancing the mobile search experience with five new updates for Android and iOS users. These updates aim to simplify tasks such as finding local businesses, browsing websites, and staying informed about current events.

One notable addition is the introduction of new Chrome Actions for local searches on Android devices. When users search for a restaurant or business on their phone, they will now see shortcut buttons to quickly call, get directions, or read reviews. This feature will be available on iOS later this year.

Tablet users will benefit from a redesigned address bar on iPads and Android tablets. This update takes advantage of the larger screen size and follows Google’s Material You design language. The new design ensures that the website being viewed remains visible below the address bar drop-down menu, making it easy to return to it if needed.

Chrome has also added shortcut suggestions in the address bar to help users navigate to websites based on their typing habits. For instance, if a user frequently types “schedules” to access a local transit system’s website, Chrome will prioritize that suggestion when they start typing.

iOS users will now see trending search suggestions in their Chrome address bar, a feature previously only available on Android. These trends will appear below recent searches when users tap the address bar on the New Tab page, providing inspiration for their next web search.

Sports enthusiasts can now enjoy live sports cards in Chrome’s Discover Feed on the New Tab page. These cards offer automatic updates on game results and highlights from favorite teams, ensuring users stay up to date with the latest sports news.

Overall, these updates from Google Chrome aim to streamline the mobile search experience by making common tasks quicker and offering personalized suggestions. This will make Chrome a more convenient and efficient tool for browsing the web on smartphones and tablets.
