New Blackmagic Camera App Enhances Video Controls on Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy Devices

Blackmagic, a well-known camera brand, has recently released an Android camera app that offers professional-level video recording controls but is only compatible with certain devices. The new Blackmagic Camera app, announced today, provides detailed manual controls for video recording and displays additional information such as status, recording parameters, histogram, focus peaking, levels, and frame guides.

The app enables recording in H.264 and H.265 formats and works seamlessly with Blackmagic cloud services, allowing users to share clips with editors and collaborators. Clips can also be shared directly in DaVinci Resolve. Additionally, the app’s media tab provides controls for browsing, deleting clips, reviewing, searching, sorting, and checking the upload status of media. Users can link their DCIM folder and select clips to upload to Blackmagic Cloud. Accessing media from the Blackmagic Camera All Clips folder, users can view thumbnails of stored clips and save media to their phone’s My Files folder, upload to Blackmagic Cloud Storage through Blackmagic Cloud, or manually choose clips to upload to a project library. Users can also sync media from Blackmagic Camera directly to a DaVinci Resolve project for editing and color correction.

One notable feature of the app is the “Stealth” mode, which enables recording 16:9 video even when the device is held vertically. The app is free to download, but availability is limited. Blackmagic mentions that the app should work with Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices; however, it may not be compatible with certain devices like the Google Pixel Fold.

Interested users can download the Blackmagic Camera app from the Google Play Store. For more information about Android, follow Ben on Twitter, Threads, and Instagram. Note that automatic affiliate links are used in the content to generate income.
