ARTIFICIAL intelligence-led technology to improve airport security is set to be tested in Southampton.

In December, technology company Pangiam announced details of the DARTMOUTH project, an initiative to reshape the security operations of airports by looking for threats hidden in baggage and other shipments.

Using Pangiam’s technologies along with Google Cloud AI and machine learning computer vision tools, the technology will be tested at AGS Airport Ltd’s security facilities, including Southampton.

With the aim of making air travel safer by integrating AI with baggage security and control at airports, the technology will primarily focus on quickly identifying potential threats in baggage, addressing critical points of friction and supporting security teams.
