New AI security cameras capture driver behavior that’s more than just baffling

Western Australia New AI safety cameras have issued more than 31,000 fines against distracted, speeding and erratic drivers in the first four weeks of their use.

Six camera trailers located across the state, as well as three fixed cameras on the Kwinana Freeway, have been in use for eight months as a precautionary measure.

That period ended on October 7, after which $13 million in fines were imposed the next month.

Most shockingly, a truck driver was caught driving at 100 km/h without a seatbelt, with a cell phone in one hand and another object in the other. (Nine)

The income from the fines is reinvested in traffic safety.

“If the AI ​​system believes there has been an infringement, two people will look at those photos and make a judgement,” said Road Safety Minister Reece Whitby.

More than 12,000 drivers were caught using their cell phones and about 10,000 drivers were caught without seatbelts.
