Setting up an office focused on artificial intelligence aims to “even the odds” of the technology and “ensure it is used appropriately,” the project leader said.

The government has launched the National Office for Artificial Intelligence (AI), which aims to educate people about the tool and enable companies and individuals to use it.

To set up the office, £1 million was taken from the Economic Strategy Fund, which will be used for training, awareness, literacy and industry engagement.

Digital Isle of Man chief executive Lyle Wraxall said it was important to “ensure people know how to use AI responsibly and ethically”.

The office would ensure that the three existing Digital Isle of Man staff would provide a focal point for national coordination and policy development.

There would also be advice on the adoption of AI, the risks associated with the technology and the opportunities it presents for the island.

“It’s about balancing the odds…”
