SALINE TWP., MI – Initial construction recently began on Michigan’s first hyperscale data center for artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
A neighboring resident says that preliminary construction work has already caused nuisance.
While the “Stargate” data center in rural Saline Township – which is being driven by ChatGPT developer OpenAI and multinational technology company Oracle – is not a done deal yet, with the project only allowed to do a limited amount of work to prepare the site for construction.
DTE Energy is still waiting for a decision from state energy regulators on proposed contracts to meet the 1.4 gigawatts of electricity needed to power the massive 2.2 million square feet of space. And state environmental authorities would have to issue permits. No building permits were issued.
