Mars is often referred to as the “Red Planet” because the planet is covered in a rusty, red-orange sand landscape. This is evident in our first color photo taken with the Mars Ingenuity helicopter.

That was taken about 17 feet above the ground. You can clearly see the sandy red-orange surface of Mars. And if you look at the bottom of the picture, you can clearly see the shadow of Ingenuity, whose spindle-shaped legs visibly protrude from the rectangular body.
