“My photos are warm and full of imagination – that’s something AI could never achieve”: Yuan Li’s best cell phone photo

YUan Li divides his time between two careers: in winter he works as a ski instructor; a photographer in the summer. When he took this picture, Beijing-based Li was visiting Norway and Iceland with friends on a trip focused on viewing and photographing the Aurora Borealis. He took this picture while exploring Sakrisøy, a small island in the Lofoten Islands in Norway. In the foreground is this striking yellow homestay; in the background the mountain Olstinden.

“It had been snowing heavily all day,” recalls Li. “As I was preparing to capture this scene, the snow stopped and the sun came out, providing the perfect setting for photography.”

Li used his cell phone to take this shot and later enhanced the color of the house and mountain peak. “Contrast is the most important thing about this photo. The warm yellow color of the foreground buildings contrasts with the cool color of the mountains in the background, while the triangular roof overhangs match the triangular mountain peak perfectly,”…
