Online mapping service Moonpig reports an increase in sales, thanks in part to the increased use of AI in designing maps, personalizing customer messages and responding to inquiries.
The company said sales rose 6.7% to £169m in the six months to October 31 and had remained strong in the weeks since, largely due to increased orders and spend per order at its flagship Moonpig brand.
“AI is designing a lot of maps for us now,” said its chief executive Nickyl Raithatha. He said the technology has helped create everything from baby and birthday cards to corporate greetings related to a particular company.
“It’s still managed by our internal team. We make sure someone is looking at it and it’s relevant and exciting to customers. We don’t want to fill our website with generic design. We’re treading carefully.”
