None of the advice given to her by sleep experts or her pediatrician worked—not using a white noise machine, not buying blackout curtains, not even giving her a massage. “It took about two to three hours every day to put her to bed,” remembers the brand consultant from Zurich. “She was screaming and fighting and at the end of the day we were all so exhausted and frustrated.”
When her daughter was three and a half years old, a desperate, misty-eyed Schmidt turned to a controversial parenting tool: ChatGPT. The advice it contained “was completely the opposite of anything I had heard before,” she says. “It said she needed more stimulation,” suggesting her daughter should chew gum or jump on a trampoline before bed.
