The world didn’t change overnight. It was changing slowly, quietly, right in front of us, and most of us either looked away or thought it would sort itself out somehow. It won’t.
This week was a masterclass in the new normal. Donald Trump issued an ultimatum on Truth Social, threatening to “strike and obliterate” Iran’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz was not fully reopened within 48 hours. Iran responded with the energy of a country with nothing to lose.
Then, with the casual confidence of a man who has never faced consequences, Trump posted again. Wonderful news. There were “VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE DISCUSSIONS” with Iran. He boasted, “I didn’t call them. They called me.”
Iran’s reaction was quick and sharp. There was no call, no negotiations, and Trump “backed out out of fear.”
