Mirantis, a company known for providing enterprises with control over their strategic infrastructure through open source software, has released Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes (MOSK) 24.2. This new version includes a Dynamic Resource Balancing feature that automates workload distribution to address performance issues such as hotspot and noisy neighbor problems.

One of the key features of MOSK 24.2 is the Distributed Resource Balancer, which automatically redistributes workloads within a cluster to balance resource consumption, preventing hypervisor overload and performance degradation. This feature, developed by Mirantis and contributed to OpenStack upstream, is similar to VMware‘s Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) but does not rely on complex dependencies.

Based on OpenStack 2024.1/Caracal and Ceph Reef for software-defined storage, MOSK 24.2 also integrates support for Open Virtual Network (OVN) for software-defined networking services for virtual machines. Shaun O’Meara, Chief Technology Officer at Mirantis, emphasizes that MOSK is a suitable option for organizations looking to move away from VMware as it simplifies cloud and virtualization operation, offering scalability and reliability.

MOSK allows for the management of cloud infrastructure for both cloud-native and traditional applications, with full control over application data. It streamlines the operation of OpenStack-based solutions and can be deployed on various hardware configurations, serving as an ideal host environment for migrated VMware VM workloads.

MOSK also supports multi-cloud management from a single interface and hybrid cloud setups that combine public and private cloud resources. It is available in different packages with various support options, integrations, migration services, and training opportunities.

Mirantis will be showcasing the features of MOSK 24.2 in a demonstration on July 25th, and offers a TCO calculator to estimate cost savings compared to other infrastructures like VMware. The company aims to provide organizations with complete control over their infrastructure, combining automation and cloud-native expertise to manage virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud environments.

Leading companies such as Adobe, DocuSign, and PayPal rely on Mirantis for their infrastructure needs. For more information about Mirantis and MOSK 24.2, visit their website at www.mirantis.com.
