Reducing carbon emissions, and more broadly environmental, social and governance, has become one of the biggest focus areas for the resource sector over the past decade, and companies are at different stages with their goals.
Fresh from his first trip to Western Australia in a while due to border closures, UBS analyst Lachlan Shaw said on Tuesday that decarbonization was one of the four dominant issues being discussed with companies, alongside costs, heritage issues and demand.
He said site energy decarbonization is largely underway so far with “modest” direct cost benefits, but noted that electrification of fleets and rolling stock would follow if technology allowed in the years to come.
