In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced that the Cortana, Tips, and WordPad apps will be automatically removed from systems updated to the next version of Windows 11, known as 24H2. This decision follows the removal of the standalone Cortana app in a preview build for Windows 11, with plans to deprecate WordPad, a feature that has been installed on Windows systems for 28 years. Additionally, the Tips app was also deprecated and will be removed in a future version of Windows.
Windows Insiders can now install Windows 11 24H2 on devices that meet the necessary hardware requirements, either through the Windows Update feature or through Windows Update for Business and Windows Server Update Service for business customers. This move is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to streamline and update its software offerings, including previous decisions to remove the classic Windows Paint app, which was later made available through the Microsoft Store due to user feedback.
Furthermore, Microsoft announced plans to make Defender Application Guard for Office and the Windows security isolation APIs obsolete, as well as to deprecate VBScript starting in the second half of 2024. These changes are part of a larger initiative to remove features that have been used as attack vectors in malware incidents, ensuring a more secure computing environment for users.
