Jan 28 (Reuters) – Microsoft only edged past estimates for quarterly revenue in its crucial cloud-computing business on Wednesday and ramped up spending on artificial intelligence, disappointing investors looking for better returns amid intense competition.

The company also reported that the contracted backlog in its cloud business more than doubled to $625 billion, which was more than the $523 billion rival Oracle (ORCL.N) posted in December.
