Microsoft’s Automatic Super Resolution Upscaling Technology Restricted to CoPilot+ PCs and Certain Games

Microsoft has unveiled more information about its new super-resolution auto-enhancement technology that will be exclusive to Copilot+ PCs and select games. This feature, known as Automatic Super Resolution, promises faster frame rates and improved visuals for a more immersive gaming experience. While similar to technologies offered by NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel, Microsoft’s Auto SR will utilize AI processing from NPU and GPU to deliver over 45 TOPS on AI PCs.

Currently, only Copilot+ certified PCs based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X CPUs are able to take advantage of this technology. However, Microsoft has confirmed plans to expand Copilot+ support to include Intel and AMD platforms, such as Lunar Lake and Strix, with over 100 TOPS of AI processing power. This expansion will also include support for NVIDIA GeForce RTX and AMD Radeon RX GPUs.

Games that are optimized for Auto SR will have improved frame rates and detailed on-screen images. It is important to note that not all games will be compatible with this feature, with Microsoft Studios and affiliated games being among the first to utilize Auto SR. Additionally, Microsoft’s Auto SR technology should not be confused with DirectSR, which aims to help developers integrate super resolution technology seamlessly, with support for NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS.

In conclusion, Microsoft’s Automatic Super Resolution technology is set to revolutionize the gaming experience on Copilot+ PCs by providing faster frame rates and enhanced visuals through AI processing. With plans to expand support to a wider range of platforms and GPUs, this technology has the potential to elevate gaming experiences across a variety of titles.
