Microsoft’s approach to age verification in Australia is further proof that Valve is taking the everloving piss

Many are justifiably annoyed about Steam’s new age verification requirements in Australia. Whereas most platforms and shopfronts offer several ways to verify one’s age, Valve offers only one, and it’s amusingly ill-suited to the Australian market. To prove that you’re over 18 years old and thus, legally allowed to purchase games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Doom Eternal or Rimworld, you need to provide details for an active credit card.

The problem? Very few Australians use credit cards.
