Microsoft unveils Copilot+ PCs for the new era of “AI PC”: Featuring Snapdragon X CPU first, followed by Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Strix, boasting faster NVIDIA RTX and AMD Radeon GPUs.

Microsoft has officially launched its Copilot+ PC Ecosystem for the “AI PC” era, featuring new laptops from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. The Copilot+ PC platform will use NPU technology to enhance AI PC experiences within the Windows 11 operating system. Microsoft claims that the latest silicon from Qualcomm, AMD, and Intel will enable more than 40 TOPS of AI computing power, which is necessary for these experiences.

During the launch event at the Redmond Campus, Microsoft positioned its Copilot+ PC ecosystem against Apple and its M3 chips, boasting up to 20x faster AI performance than the Apple M3 and up to 100x more efficient processing than NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080. The first devices with these capabilities are now available for pre-order, starting at $999 US. Qualcomm is the first to introduce its Snapdragon X Elite and Plus CPUs in partnership with OEMs like ACER, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft.

Some of the Copilot+ PC models announced include the Acer Swift 14 AI, ASUS Vivobook S 15, Dell XPS 13, HP OmniBook X AI PC, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x and ThinkPad T14s Gen 6, and Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge. These laptops offer various AI-enhanced features, advanced processors, and unique design elements to cater to different consumer needs.

Microsoft also revealed its new Surface Pro and Surface Copilot+ PCs, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon X CPUs. These laptops are expected to be available at key retailers starting from $999 USD on June 18.

In addition to Snapdragon, Intel Lunar Lake CPUs and AMD Strix APUs are also expected to bring significant AI performance gains to the Copilot+ PC ecosystem. Intel’s Lunar Lake CPUs promise over 100 AI TOPS, while AMD Strix APUs are projected to offer up to 3x NPU performance gain. Microsoft plans to collaborate with Intel and AMD to introduce new Copilot+ PC experiences and further enhance performance by integrating discrete graphics capabilities like NVIDIA RTX and AMD Radeon in the future.

Overall, Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC Ecosystem marks a significant step forward in AI PC technology, leveraging the latest advancements in silicon and AI computing to deliver enhanced experiences for consumers and professionals alike. The collaboration with leading chip manufacturers and OEM partners ensures a diverse range of AI-enabled laptops that cater to different user preferences and requirements. As the AI momentum in PCs continues to grow, we can expect further innovations and developments in the coming years to push the boundaries of AI computing on personal computers.
