It’s been three years since SAP Sapphire was held in person and I was thrilled to be able to reconnect with our customers and partners this week. As SAP Sapphire comes to an end, I’m taking a moment to reflect on how the world has changed since the pandemic. Many companies were unprepared for the impact such a change would have on their business and were forced to adapt in real time, realizing that the digital transformation conversations of the past now needed to be acted upon and accelerated .
Fast forward to SAP Sapphire 2022 and a new world where personal and hybrid experiences converged in Orlando, Florida and virtually around the world. Microsoft and SAP celebrate the one year anniversary of RISE with SAP in the Microsoft Cloud, which helps companies of all sizes modernize their SAP solutions in the cloud. We’ve made great strides in various aspects of our product innovation, delivering new service offerings, frameworks, and tools that have helped our customers and partners simplify and further accelerate their SAP modernization journey. SAP Sapphire 2022 gave us the opportunity to reconnect with customers and partners – to celebrate our mutual success, discuss new business priorities and identify areas where Microsoft can further accelerate their growth. It is very enriching and humbling to see the trust that SAP, our customers and partners have in our technology platform and how it translates into different industries and customer scenarios. The National Basketball Association (NBA) wanted to eliminate the limitations of their on-premises data centers and moved their SAP applications and other IT resources to the cloud. Begin your journey to becoming a demand-driven company (Session SCM157)
Dhaval Desai, Principal Lead, SAP Supply Chain Engineering at Microsoft, shared how Microsoft launched RISE with SAP on the Microsoft Cloud to transform its supply chain into a collaborative, digitally connected network that helps it quickly identify and respond to changes in demand react. Results of this joint initiative by Microsoft and SAP include reduced information exchange latency, improved forecasting accuracy, and increased supply chain visibility, including visibility into supplier obligations.

Ann Wallach, Director of SAP Delivery at Merck and Co., will share how this global pharmaceutical company streamlined and automated its vaccine ordering process, which was previously handled by fax and phone and required manual entry of sales orders. Merck modernized by leveraging the scalability of SAP Commerce Cloud on Microsoft Azure to improve customer experience and payment card industry compliance.
