Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is preparing its biggest push yet to turn homegrown AI silicon into a meaningful alternative to Nvidia, with the software giant reportedly planning to unveil its Maia 300 accelerator as early as September. Microsoft is also discussing manufacturing capacity for more than 300,000 chips with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM), potentially giving it greater control over the soaring cost of powering Azure’s AI workloads.

The Maia 300 is expected to be unveiled this fall, according to The Information, which cited people familiar with Microsoft’s plans. The company is reportedly targeting delivery of more than 300,000 units in 2027 and wants major cloud customers, including Anthropic, to adopt the chip.
