Microsoft shipped the largest Patch Tuesday in its history on October 13, 2026, closing out 1,413 CVEs in a single release and pushing one fix straight onto the federal government’s forced-remediation list. The headline flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-96951, lets attackers slip malicious files past Windows’ Mark of the Web warning system, the same prompt that normally tells a user a file came from the open internet. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency added the bug to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog within hours and gave federal agencies until October 16, 2026 to patch it.
