Microsoft news: Great update for Xbox One gamers as new 2019 plans leak | Gaming | Entertainment

A new leak has surfaced this week that suggests Microsoft has big plans in 2019 that don’t involve a new next-gen console.

And if these new reports are to be believed, Xbox One and Xbox One X owners are looking at another bumper year of announcements.

The tech giant hasn’t been shy about launching new hardware and accessories in the past, and it doesn’t appear that it’s going to change in the future.

Microsoft changed things up when they released the Elite Xbox One controllers, proving that fans had an appetite for premium accessories.

And it appears more stuff is being planned in a busy year against Sony PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Rumours are rife this week that Microsoft will be launching a new controller and console in 2019.

New patents have been found that suggest the company is working on something fresh features.

Two new designs are tied to additional trigger features, something that could prove popular with fans.

This includes a patent covering triggers with an input device that sports linear geared feedback.

The other features motor-driven triggers that have adjustable tension, something that doesn’t sound particularly cheap.

Both of these were filed in December 2018 and suggest that Microsoft will be launching new controller designs in the future.

It appears these new controllers would help increase response to tasks such as shooting and running and may not be attached to existing input devices.

The next Xbox console is expected to be announced later this year, so could Microsoft be readying big news for fans?

The idea that the company wants to offer gamers as many customisable options for their new console seems clear, especially when you consider the reports of several different kinds of next-gen consoles being developed.

A new Xbox One design is reportedly being worked on before the end of the current generation of gaming devices.

The surprise rumours suggest that Microsoft is testing the waters for a disc-less console, which would cost less and only run digital games.

The new console would also benefit from being lighter and smaller, something that would help sell it before the launch of the next Xbox.

While this new disc-less Xbox One remains a rumour at this time, it would make sense for Microsoft to try something like this out.

Microsoft is reportedly looking at releasing several new consoles when they make the jump to the next-gen.

This would include a high-grade replacement to the Xbox One X, another cheaper machine which would play the same games, and something else that could feed into the company’s upcoming xCloud.

So if a disc-less Xbox One proved popular, it may be something Microsoft would want to explore for their next designs too.

Project xCloud is set to start public trials in 2019, meaning it will be ready for the Xbox One generation.

And it certainly sounds like there is an emphasis on bringing Xbox gaming to as many devices as possible.

“Our focus is on delivering an amazing added experience to existing Xbox players and on empowering developers to scale to hundreds of millions of new players across devices.

“Our goal with Project xCloud is to deliver a quality experience for all gamers on all devices that are consistent with the speed and high-fidelity gamers experience and expect on their PCs and consoles.

“We’ve enabled compatibility with existing and future Xbox games by building out custom hardware for our datacenters that leverages our years of console and platform experience.

“We’ve architected a new customizable blade that can host the component parts of multiple Xbox One consoles, as well as the associated infrastructure supporting it. We will scale those custom blades in datacenters across Azure regions over time.”
