Bitcoin farmer and former barn builder Crusoe announced plans on Friday to expand the capacity of its data center campus in Abilene, Texas, by 900 megawatts to support Microsoft’s AI ambitions.

The new campus will be adjacent to the 1.2 gigawatt facility that Crusoe is building as part of its $500 billion Stargate initiative for Oracle and OpenAI announced early last year.

Oracle and OpenAI had allegedly planned to lease the additional capacity until negotiations and financing fell through.

Meta was expected to lay claim to the as-yet-unbuilt and unused data center expansion, but it looks like Microsoft will now settle on the site instead. While Microsoft’s relationship with OpenAI has certainly changed in recent years, it is possible that Redmond will ultimately use the site for the model developer.
