LOWELL, MI – Microsoft has revealed itself as the company behind a proposed $1 billion data center in Lowell Township.
The Lowell Charter Township Planning Commission published a letter from Microsoft on its website Jan. 7.
Microsoft officials wrote that the company requested to pause the rezoning process to engage with the community.
Because the project is still in its early stages, details like design and timeline are unavailable, the company wrote.
“We are introducing ourselves now because we have observed that the community would like more information about the proposal, and we believe it is important to be transparent about our intentions moving forward,” the letter reads.
The Lowell Township Planning Commission initially planned to hold a public hearing on the project on Dec. 8. However, the township ended up postponing the meeting until January due to an overflowed crowd that showed up to the hearing.
