Microsoft (MS) has automated the review process for its Edge Add-ons Store to handle a surge in browser extension submissions driven by the spread of AI-assisted coding. The decision reflects the company’s assessment that the existing review pipeline has reached its limits as developers use AI tools to produce extensions far faster than before.
The Edge team announced on the 10th via its official blog: “The rapid spread of AI coding has enabled developers to create extensions much faster than before,” adding that “more developers are building, improving, and submitting extensions.” Every extension registered in the Edge Add-ons Store must pass Microsoft’s review before users can install it, but as submission volumes grew, even the existing expedited review process came under strain, and the time required to complete reviews increased.
