Microsoft asks Gaines Township to delay vote on data center rezoning

Microsoft Corp. is updating its rezoning application to develop a data center in Gaines Township and requested that the township hold off voting on the project until late March. 

The company sent Gaines Township Community Development Director Dan Wells a letter on Wednesday with the request. 

“We are continuing to evolve our plans for the data center campus, including the size, scope and design,” Microsoft wrote in the letter.. “And we would appreciate the opportunity to engage with the community and incorporate their feedback into our plans. We are currently organizing a community meeting for early March to share the revised preliminary concepts, answer questions and listen.”

The Gaines Township Planning Commission was initially scheduled to vote on a rezoning request for a portion of the 356-acre site on Dec. 18, but the meeting room exceeded its 250-person capacity. The agenda item was put on hold and rescheduled to Feb. 12 at the South Christian…
