Meta is spending billions of dollars on AMD gear and buying stocks

Meta Platforms will provide 6 gigawatts worth of data center equipment based on Advanced Micro Devices processors. A blockbuster deal that marks a victory for the chipmaker’s attempts to catch up with Nvidia.

Meta will purchase chips and computers from AMD designed to power artificial intelligence models over a five-year period starting in the second half of 2026. The series of transactions will be worth “tens of billions” of dollars per gigawatt, according to AMD CEO Lisa Su.
