Meta is banning teenagers from accessing its AI chatbots in various personas as the company looks to implement a new system that will ensure greater safety when using them and address concerns that teens could receive harmful advice through these options.
Which makes sense given the concerns already raised about AI bot interaction, but actually these would apply to everyone, not just teenage users.
Back in October, Meta introduced some new options for parents to control how their children interact with AI profiles in its apps, amid concerns that some AI chatbots were giving teenagers potentially harmful advice and guidance.
In fact, several AI chatbots have been found to give teenagers dangerous guidance on self-harm, eating disorders, buying drugs (and hiding from parents), etc.
