– On Thursday, the NSA unveiled guidelines in support of malicious cyber defense on targeted, connected operational technology (OT). Although aimed at federal agencies, private sector companies can use the findings to improve their overall security posture.

The guide combines other insights that aid in responding and hopefully preventing another SolarWinds Orion security incident. In the past few months, leaders have published guides on how to counteract supply chain attacks, advanced persistent threats and vulnerability exploits.

Given that an attacker could dive into an operational technology exploit with an IT exploit, the latest NSA guidance provides system administrators with insights into how to assess system risk and how to improve the security of connections between OT and corporate networks.
