Major update on the way for Google Maps

Spread the love

Google Maps is undergoing a significant change to address concerns about the collection and use of personal information. The Google Maps Timeline feature, which helps users remember past routes and trips based on location history, is being modified. Users in Australia will soon have their timeline data saved on their device rather than in the cloud, giving them more control over their data. The default setting will automatically delete location data after three months, with the option to extend the time or disable automatic deletion. Users are encouraged to review their settings by December 1 to avoid losing data. Additionally, users will be able to remove specific location-related activities from their Maps history. A change to the “blue dot” feature will display location history, timeline, and access settings when tapped. Google is committed to keeping user data secure, private, and under their control, aligning with Australian privacy laws. The government is considering changes to Australia’s privacy framework to enhance data protection and align regulations with global standards. This includes potentially introducing a bill to parliament for a more stringent approach to data privacy.
