A new standalone app for Steam Link has just been launched in the macOS App Store, which makes streaming games from a gaming PC to a macOS device much easier.
Some users have been streaming games through the Steam Mac app for a while. With Steam Link on macOS, users who want to stream games can now choose a lighter download from the storage page (29.8MB) instead of installing the Steam app, which requires approximately 1GB of storage.
This was first discovered Redditafter users noticed that Valve secretly launched the Steam Link for all macOS computers. The app is an alternative to using a dedicated Steam Mac app to stream games from your gaming PC.
This isn’t the first time Steam Link has made its way to Apple devices. The app was already available in 2019 introduced on iOS and tvOS Devices, leaving out Mac users so far.
Mac devices aren’t exactly classified as a go-to gaming option, and neither does Apple intend its computers to compete with other flagship PC gaming brands like MSI, Razer, and Alienware.
With the Steam Link app, all you need to do is install the Steam app on your host device. No login is required for the Steam Link app. So all you have to do is sync the four devices by entering the four-digit PIN that appears on your PC on your macOS device.
This also allows you to enjoy multiplayer games through invitation links that are normally used through Steam.
Before downloading Steam Link, make sure your Mac is running macOS 10.13 or later. Otherwise, your macOS device will not be able to run the new app. Also note that you need to make sure that both your Mac and your dedicated gaming PC are running on the same local area network.
