A Lockheed Martin team plans to build an application-specific integrated circuit with security features, using an approach developed by a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency program to protect electronic systems from vulnerabilities exploited by software.

The DARPA program System Security Integration Through Hardware and Firmware intends to develop hardware security tools and architectures to protect electronic platforms from various classes of hardware vulnerabilities and to put an end to the software patch and pret method, announced the agency on Wednesday.

Lockheed’s Hardware Architecture Resilience by Design approach, developed as part of the SSITH program, provides a hardware platform for protecting systems from hardware vulnerabilities using a series of pipelines that can help track the flow of instructions on the primary CPU pipeline and exploitation attempts to recognize.
