The Callisto technology demonstration will be integrated into NASA’s Orion spacecraft for the agency’s unmanned Artemis I mission around the moon and back to Earth. Callisto uses Cisco’s Amazon Alexa and Webex to test and demonstrate commercial technology for deep space voice, video, and whiteboard communications. Lockheed Martin, who designed and built the Orion spacecraft for NASA, leads the payload development and integration.
“Callisto will demonstrate a unique technology that could be used in the future to make astronauts more self-sufficient in exploring space,” said Lisa Callahan, Vice President and General Manager of Commercial Civil Space at Lockheed Martin. “Callisto is a shining example of how new commercial technology partnerships can be flown onto Orion to aid future human space missions.”
