Local Meetup Group Raising Funds for Tech Nonprofits at Amazon’s Cybersecurity Conference in Philly

Thousands of technologists are set to gather at the Philadelphia Convention Center for Reinforce, the annual cybersecurity conference for Amazon Web Services (AWS). Alongside the conference, a local event called RePhil will be held to raise money for local tech nonprofits and showcase the city to conference attendees. Organizers hope to attract about 200 attendees interested in data, artificial intelligence, technology, and business.

RePhil will feature networking opportunities and information about the city’s technology-focused nonprofits. Attendees can donate for tickets, and all profits will be donated to five local nonprofit organizations supporting workforce development, technology inclusion, education, and related causes. These organizations include the Inspiring Tech Foundation, Child Coded, Tech Impact, Hopeworks, and STEM So(ul)ial.

The event will also offer a chance to win prizes by earning stamps on a passport given to attendees. RePhil will take place at Bar-Ly Chinatown and is sponsored by CBS Consulting, Qlik, and NetApp. With the rise of tech meetups after the pandemic, RePhil aims to provide a platform for local networking in person and showcase Philadelphia’s tech community achievements.

Sarah Huffman, a 2022-2024 corps member for Report for America, is supporting this initiative. The event hopes to bring recognition to Philadelphia’s tech scene and facilitate more in-person networking opportunities.
