Traditionally, the hardest part of mapping a supply chain has been identifying all the different silos and sidings that may hold relevant information.

“You could spend a lifetime with the automotive industry modeling the entire supply chain and all the global impacts,” says Jafaar Beydoun, director of sales at software company o9 Solutions. “For something like EV batteries, you could get as far as lithium mining.” It’s possible to model all of these relationships in a timely manner, he says, but it’s better for companies to focus on their key partners and suppliers first.
