AMD’s Ryzen 9 9900X 12-core desktop CPU has been put to the test in the Geek Test Bench and has shown impressive gains compared to Intel’s 14th Gen CPUs. The 9900X boasts a 16% single-core performance increase over the 7900X and outperforms the Core i9-14900KS in benchmark tests.

The Ryzen 9 9900X is a 12-core, 24-thread processor with a base clock of 4.4 GHz and a boost clock of up to 5.6 GHz. It features a 76 MB cache and a lower TDP of 120 W, as opposed to the 170 W TDP of the Ryzen 9 7900X chips. While the boost clock speed remains the same as the 7900X, the base clock sees a -300MHz reduction to fit within the 120W power limit, enabling strong multi-threading capabilities.

In Geekbench 6 tests on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard with 32GB of DDR5 memory, the Ryzen 9 9900X scored 3401 points in the single-core test and 19,756 points in the multi-core test. These results showcase the chip’s superior single-core performance compared to Intel’s Core i9-14900KS and a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7900X.

While Geekbench is a synthetic benchmark, these performance numbers indicate the Ryzen 9 9900X’s impressive single-core performance advantage. Anticipated to hit retail shelves later this month on the AM5 platform, AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series, including the 9900X, promises to deliver exceptional performance.

The Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” Desktop CPU lineup includes the Ryzen 9 9900X with Zen 5 architecture, 12/24 cores/threads, base/boost clocks of 4.4/5.6 GHz, and a TDP of 120 W. Priced at around $549, this chip is set to compete strongly in the CPU market.

Overall, the Ryzen 9 9900X demonstrates AMD’s commitment to delivering high-performance CPUs with efficient power consumption. As the Ryzen 9000 series prepares for its market release, consumers can expect cutting-edge performance and competitive pricing from AMD’s latest offerings.
