It is always a good idea to take a critical look at leaks, but with the latest AirPods 3 The rumor about the release date is hard to believe.
Here’s why we’re skeptical. AppleTrack is more of an aggregator of leaks than a leak source itself, but Miani has no track record of providing inside information – let alone information that later turns out to be accurate.
Second, a mid-May launch would pretty much contradict everything we’ve heard so far about the AirPods 3 launch window, the consensus of which can be traced back largely to the second half of 2021. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, for whom AppleTrack has a 75% leak accuracy rating, has suggested that the AirPods 3 hasn’t even gone into mass production yet.
We believe the AirPods 3 launch is pretty close as the obvious design has been leaked repeatedly. And while it would seem like Apple would announce its next big headphone release at an event like this WWDC 2021Both the AirPods 2 and the AirPods 3 were launched much more modestly via press release.
Miani apparently told AppleTracks that this is how Apple will unveil the AirPods 3 in addition to introducing a new one Apple Music Hi-Fi Service. It will presumably offer lossless high definition music for the same $ 9.9 per month.
That’s believable enough – a double header on audio releases makes a lot of sense – but the May 18 date seems a little early considering what we’ve heard from more established sources.
Speaking of which, normal Apple leakers Jon Prosser – whose own record isn’t flawless, but is mostly accurate – has already indicated that a major new iMac embargo will fall on May 18, so Apple may not want to distract attention with a separate AirPods 3 announcement. It would already compete with Google I / O 2021Apple has shown that it doesn’t care what the competition is doing.
